Commander-in-chief AKA Madisyn

So Madisyn woke up this morning at the ungodly hour of 5am. At about 6:30 she tells me that she wants to eat. I asked her what she wanted, and she told me "Pancakes, Eggs, Cheese". Remember, she's only 18 months old, but she definitely knows when she wants something. This seemed a little odd, as she isn't the biggest egg fan, so I double checked by asking her if she really wanted eggs - to which she responded yes and gave me the sign for egg, as to reinforce it for me.

So foolishly I proceeded to make her pancakes and scrambled eggs with cheese. We sat down to eat and she didn't touch ANY of it. Sigh. After sitting at the table for a while, we decided to try eating later.

About an hour later, she comes back up to me and says "Eat, eat!" Being smarter this time, I made her some yogurt with blueberries. However, while I was getting this ready for her, she is standing there telling me what to do! I couldn't believe it! She told me - Berries, berries - before I put them in her yogurt. Then, she tells me "spoon" so that I would get her spoon out. Last, she says "table, table" and runs to her seat. Seriously - who is directing who here? At least I know she'll be a leader!

New career, new direction

I'm so excited to announce that I'm going to be teaching this year! I've been taking classes to obtain my single subject credential since 2008, and have been slowly plugging along. This past year I've been quite discouraged by the economy and budget cuts. I honestly didn't think that teaching would be in my future. Then - out of the blue - a golden opportunity came my way.

I am definitely a little nervous about it all, but I am confident that this is the right move. I will be teaching 10th grade chemistry, with the possibility of coaching softball in the spring. I don't think it could get any more perfect. Well, on paper at least.

Here's to hoping for the best!

Ok - So I'm going to try this whole blogging thing. We'll see if I have enough interesting stuff to put up here, and if I actually stick with it :)
We’re getting ready to go on our first overnight backpacking trip. I’m a little concerned, mainly because I’ll be bringing along Auntie Flo (yeah!) and we’ve never done this. Plus, Nathan and I will be hiking with separate groups, so I won’t have my Sherpa with me and I’ll have to carry all of my own gear. YIKES! On the flip side, I’ll be taking a MUCH needed vacation from work, and hopefully being in Desolation Wilderness will help me clear my mind and get some well needed R&R. Another perk is the exercise we’ll be getting. I’m sure this trip will be good for at least dropping another 3-5 pounds.

We’ll update after we get back.
